Assistant Principal/Activities Director

Lisa Smith

Parents, Guardians, and Community Members,

I would like to introduce myself as the new Assistance Principal/Activities Director for Nashwauk-Keewatin. I’m truly honored to join such a dedicated and passionate team of educators!

I am a proud graduate of Eveleth-Gilbert High School. The majority of my educational journey has been in the field of Special Education, supporting students of all ages across a variety of learning needs. Most recently, I’ve served as a Behavior Interventionist for the past two years. These experiences have shaped my commitment to building inclusive, student-centered environments where every child can succeed.

I earned my Master’s in Special Education in 2019 from the University of Wisconsin-Superior and completed the Educational Leadership Program at Minnesota State University–Moorhead last spring. During my practicum, I had the opportunity to step into leadership roles in both elementary and middle school settings, which deepened my passion for collaborative school leadership.

Outside of school, I enjoy spending time at my cabin on Lake Vermilion, running marathons (with my dad), coaching basketball and volleyball, and hanging out with my niece Irie (9) and nephew Jude (7)—they keep me on my toes!

I’m truly looking forward to working alongside NK's dedicated staff, getting to know our amazing NK students and families, and building strong connections within our school community. I believe leadership is about service, collaboration, and creating spaces where both students and staff can thrive.

Please don’t hesitate to reach out—whether by email (lsmith@isd319.org), phone (218-885-1280 ext. 51101), or just stopping by my office. I’m always happy to connect.

Here’s to a great year ahead!
