Elementary School
Parents, Guardians, Community Members,
I'm excited to move into my new role at Nashwauk-Keewatin schools. I look forward to supporting our students with reaching their goals at the high school.
I grew up in the Nashwauk and Pengilly communities. I attended Nashwauk-Keewatin Schools and I am a 2009 graduate. My partner, Mandi McNeil, is from Hill City and is a special education teacher at Grand Rapids school district. We will be expecting our first child this coming December- it's a boy!
I never expected to be in the field of education, but I am so glad to be in such a rewarding and complex profession. I attended the University of Minnesota College of Biological Sciences with the intent of pursuing a career in medicine. Following graduation in 2014, a special education teacher from the area suggested I look into a full-time literacy tutor position at Keewatin Elementary. I accepted the position and my experiences that first year literally changed my life. I fell in love with everything about teaching and supporting students. I was hired the following year as a special education paraprofessional and began the process to earn a Master's degree in special education through Mankato State. The past seven years I have been the district's early childhood special education (ECSE) teacher. I am currently wrapping up my administrative licensures of special education director and principal through Saint Mary's University of Minnesota.
I'm so excited to be at the high school! Please reach out, jtsundquist@isd319.org or call 218-885-1280 extension 51101 or text (218) 301-7427. I will do my best to respond within 24 hours.
