October Deadlines
VFW Voice of Democracy Scholarship: Students in grades 9-12 will record an original 3-5 minute audio essay on a flash drive, or other electronic device. They will submit the recording, typed essay and the entry form (see the counselor for the form). Submit these items to the Nashwauk-Keewatin school counselor or VFW Post for judging.
Deadline: September 1 and closes October 31st, 2024
November Deadlines
Blaze Scholarship: In partnership with the Minnesota Credit Union Foundation Scholarship Council (FSC), Blaze Credit Union is pleased to offer a scholarship program exclusively to credit union members to help further their pursuit of education. For the 2024-25 school year, $18,000 in scholarships will be awarded to college students in traditional (high school seniors entering college) and non-traditional categories. Each recipient will be awarded $1,000. Any Blaze Credit Union member pursuing education in the fall of 2025 and spring of 2026 is eligible to apply. Applications are being accepted through November 30, 2024.
2024 Essay Question: What is the greatest gift you have ever received (object or life experience)? How did it impact you when you received it and does it still hold meaning now? December Deadlines
Hagan Scholarship: Scholarship for students from rural areas (NK is a qualifying school) who plan to attend a 4 year college or university. Up to $7500 per semester! Must have a 3.5 or better GPA, work at least 240 hours during your senior year before you start college (summer job OK too) and have financial need (household adjusted gross income of $100,000 or less).

New Range Copper Nickel (formerly Polymet): $5000 scholarships for students going into STEM or trades. There's an additional opportunity for Native American students going into STEM or trades.

United Way Youth Contest: Open to seniors from NE Minnesota high schools. Submit a short essay OR a short video regarding needs in our community. Up to $10,000 for 2 or 4 year colleges or trades.

Union Plus Scholarship: $500-$4000 scholarships for students from union families.

Lake Country Power: The Les Beach Memorial Scholarship is a renewable scholarship (up to $4000 over 4 years) for graduating seniors with a 2.5 GPA or better whose parent/guardian are Lake Country Power customers. Can be used for 2 or 4 year colleges or vocational programs.

Alworth Scholarship: For students with a 3.5 or better GPA and a 24 or better ACT who are pursuing a 4 year degree in a STEM field (starting at a community college OK). For families under $175,000 AGI (adjusted gross income). $24,000 scholarship!

Paul Bunyan/Minnesota Telecom Alliance scholarship: $2000 scholarship for students whose parents/guardians are Paul Bunyan customers.

The Girl Friends Fund, Inc.® (“The Fund”): This is a scholarship opportunity for African American students. To be eligible for consideration, a scholarship applicant MUST:
Be a United States Citizen (as defined by FAFSA)
Have a minimum cumulative Grade Point Average (GPA) of 3.0 or above on a 4.3 scale
Be accepted for undergraduate study at a four-year accredited institution of higher education

Michigan Tech Alumni Iron Range Scholarship: $1,500.00. Any graduate of an Iron Range High School. Must be in the top 1/4 of the high school class. Awards limited to students who have not previously been enrolled as full-time students at a college or university, with the exception of those enrolled in one of the four Iron Range Community Colleges (Itasca, Hibbing, Mesabi or Vermilion). A personal interview prior to awarding the scholarship may be required by the awarding committee. Must remain enrolled as a full-time student at Michigan Tech.

Horatio Alger Scholarship: This is a rare opportunity for Juniors. 800 state level scholarships of $10,000 and 105 national scholarships of $25,000.

AKPsi Scholarship: For students going to the Carlson School of Management at the U of M. Alpha Kappa Psi is a co-ed (open to men and women) professional business fraternity at the U fo Minnesota. Awards range from $5000-$25,000

Paul Bunyan Communications Scholarships:
Two $500 scholarships are available to high school seniors from Nashwauk-Keewatin High School. Priority will be given to students who use Paul Bunyan services and show good citizenship.

8th District Horticultural Society Scholarship: Four or more scholarships ranging from $250-$600 will be awarded to students in the MN Arrowhead region (including St. Louis and Itasca counties) who plan to attend a 2 or 4-year school OR a college student OR a second-time recipient OR a non-traditional student. Applicant must provide evidence of an interest in horticultural/gardening activities. (Examples: home garden, 4-H, community garden, etc.)

Hagan Scholarship:
Eligibility Requirements
1. Must attend a high school located in the United States.
2. All high school students eligible regardless of nationality.
3. Must be fluent in the English language.
4. Must be in the high school graduating class.
5. Must have achieved an unweighted 3.50 CGPA based on a 4.0 Grading Scale.
6. Must enroll in an eligible four-year College or University the first fall semester following high school graduation.
7. The scholarship cannot be used to attend a community college, junior college, or online institution.
8. Must maintain a four year or less graduation schedule, or complete the equivalent of a four year degree if in a professional program.
9. Must work 240 hours from January 1, 2025 until September 1, 2025. Work must be regularly scheduled employment performed under supervision for compensation. Employment can be full-time or part-time.
10. Applicant’s Adjusted Gross Household Income reported for 2023 Federal Income Tax Purposes must not have exceeded $100,000. “Household Income” is defined as the total income received by all adult members of a household living under the same roof.
11. Applicants are not required to provide FAFSA information. Finalists must provide the FAFSA Summary showing the SAI.
12. Must apply for Federal and State grants if eligible.

Moon Scholarship: Applications will be accepted starting on January 16, 2025. Preference will be given to graduates of Denfeld High School based on academic ability, financial need, essay, and statement of extracurricular activities (including leadership roles, community service, employment, etc.).

P.E.O. Chapter EE: The goal of P.E.O. Chapter EE scholarship is to assist women who are pursuing professional certification or an academic degree in higher education. ECMC The College Place Northern Minnesota: Two $500 scholarships will be awarded this fall to two graduating school seniors who will be attending two-year or four-year postsecondary institutions or are pursuing career and technical education in the 2025-26 academic year. Graybar Construction Trades Scholarship: Eligibility
To be eligible, the applicant must:
• be a graduating high school senior, have graduated high school, or have earned a high school equivalency diploma (GED, HiSET, TASC).
• plan to enroll full-time in a nonprofit community college, technical school, trade school, vocational school, or full-time or part-time in an apprenticeship program in the United States
• intend to complete an associate degree, pre-apprenticeship, apprenticeship, or certificate program leading to work in the construction trades (such as carpentry, construction management, electrical, HVAC, plumbing, pipefitting, sheet metal, welding, telecom, etc.).
• have achieved a minimum grade point average (G.P.A.) of 2.5 on a 4.0 scale, 456 on the GED, or 60 on the HiSET (at least an 8 on each subtest) or equivalent scores on a state-sanctioned test.
• demonstrate unmet financial need.
